Few days back, I got the chance to grab an ebook version of this book. It’s a concise 88-page book that covers an overview about penetration testing.
The meat of the book which I personally like is how the author outlines the required materials and procedures on how to go about building your own controlled testing-laboratory – In which I could say very helpful for a low-budget geek and penetration tester noob. The first part of the book discusses penetration testing and provided some reminders on pentesting must haves, before a pentester get into action such as Letter of Agreement, Scope of Work and Non-Disclosure Agreement.
The illustrative step-by-step guide on setting up a test network along with the actual screenshots is great as well. Lastly, the book goes beyond the confinement of your test network. As the saying goes “Practice makes perfect..” – the book suggests an online hacking challenge via an online virtual network.
I recommend this book for Systems/Network Administrators and Security Professionals who wish to start digging on Penetration Tester’s World.
